Ms. Lucy Gibbs - 4th Grade Teacher

We welcomed Ms. Gibbs to Saint Francis Xavier School in the 2024 - 2025 school year as our Academic Resource Teacher for elementary grades. In that role she worked closely with teachers in kindergarten through 4th grade, offering assistance wherever needed. Her duties included working with individual students and small groups of students both inside and outside of the classroom. This familiarity with our elementary curriculum and classrooms made her a perfect fit to step into 4th grade as the lead teacher while Mrs. Bancroft is on her maternity leave for 2025 - 2026.
Ms. Gibbs is a native of England and prior to arriving at Saint Francis she taught at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School in Surrey. However she also has many Vermont ties. Following her graduation from the University of Wales in 2017, she worked as the director of the Hochelaga Day Camp in South Hero each summer for a number of years. She enrolled at UVM and graduated with high honors with a Masters in Education degree in 2022. Ms. Gibbs then worked as an interventionist at Chamberlin School in South Burlington for a year before returning to England.
Ms. Gibbs has worked in the past with students from kindergarten through high school and, as she tells us, she enjoys “working with children and enabling them to grow and achieve their full potential.” She is especially pleased to be able to do this in a Catholic school. As a graduate of a Catholic elementary and high school, Ms. Gibbs says, “I understand firsthand the importance of navigating through the academics of school, whilst also embodying the Catholic ethos. . . By sharing my own experiences, I can help these students understand how God is such an integral part of their lives.”
