Mrs. Rachael Wicks - Middle School Science
My name is Rachael Wicks and I am excited to be a part of the St. Francis Xavier family as the new middle school science teacher.
I grew up in in the Adirondack Mountains, where I spent my time hiking, swimming, and cross-country skiing. There I attended Catholic primary school, public middle school, and some high school until my family moved back to Vermont just in time for me to graduate from Rice Memorial High School in 2010. My Catholic school education challenged me to strive for academic excellence. More importantly, the faith of my teachers and attendance at school mass instilled in me a great reverence for the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist at a young age. I kept the faith I developed with me as I began my time at the University of Vermont, and I became highly involved with the Catholic Center on campus. I spent my college summers as a Totus Tuus summer camp counselor, and I fell in love teaching the middle school aged attendees.
My enthusiasm for science and passion for teaching middle school students lead me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont in Secondary Education with a concentration in Biological Science. I received my Vermont State licensure in 2014. After student teaching at Milton Middle School, I stayed on to teach multiple long-term leave positions there. I was highly involved with the science fair, and I am excited for the opportunity to direct the science fair here at St. Francis Xavier.
Over the last four years I have been at home raising my three young children. I have been keeping my hand in the teaching through on-going education courses and one long-term subbing position at Essex High School. I am excited to return full-time to the middle school classroom, where I can share my love of learning and the Catholic faith.
My husband James and I were married here at St. Francis Xavier Church, and we have found a home here as parishioners. Now that my oldest two are enrolled here in the 3-year-old program, I am blessed to be able to participate in faith filled and welcoming community of St. Francis Xavier School.
