We very excited to share that we have a new physical education uniform shirt. This is something we have wanted to updated for a while. The new P.E. shirt is now available to order. The new shirt will be the only accepted uniform shirt starting in the 2018 -2019 school year. This year students will be allowed to wear the new shirt and the old shirt. Students are not allowed to wear Fun Day shirts to physical education. TO the left is a mockup of the shirt. This picture is not the final edition but is close to what it will look like. We are excited about the change. If you have questions please feel free to let me know.

ECHO Center Reduced Admission Pass Available Again to SFX Families

posted Aug 5, 2017, 9:01 AM by Becky Wetzel   [ updated Aug 5, 2017, 9:01 AM ]

We have just received a new reduced admission "Library Pass" from the ECHO Center that will be available at Ms. Terry's desk for the rest of the summer. (It will be available at the library circulation desk once school starts.)   This pass allows up to 4 people to visit ECHO for $7 each, about half the regular admission cost.   This pass is loaned out, not given out, so if you use it, please do so in a timely manner and return the pass to Ms. Terry so another family can use it.  In these waning days of summer, it's a great family opportunity!

SFX Summer Garden Care Sign-Up--Update

The soaker hose irrigation project didn't work out quite as hoped, but with all the rain Mother Nature has provided lately, enough water hasn't really been a problem.    A special shout-out to parent Jeff Fraser for his generous on-going efforts to make our garden as productive as possible.  Please use the Sign-up Genius link below if you can give an hour or so to keep the weeds down, water as necessary and--eventually--harvest the goodies.    We encourage more than one family to sign up per week so that the tasks can be more easily divided and conquered.  Mrs. Dufresne and Ms. Micky will be checking on the garden in person periodically.

Click this link to sign up--and many thanks in advance!!!   SFX Summer Garden Care Sign-Up Genius

Spelling Bee Winners

posted May 19, 2017, 7:00 AM by Saint Francis Xavier School Information   [ updated May 22, 2017, 10:22 AM by Becky Wetzel ]

We wrapped up another successful Spelling Bee at Saint Francis Xavier School.  Many thanks to second grade teacher, Sue Catozzi, for organizing this fun, tradition-rich event.  Approximately 75 students participated in the sessions which were divided by grade.  The participants clearly put a great deal of effort in to practicing their spelling.

A shout out to Mrs. Kathleen Finn for giving of her time to act as a judge for the Spelling Bee and offering the library as our venue.  We were also excited to have Mrs. Janet Walsh (grandmother to Bridget and Molly Walsh) act as judge.  Not only is Mrs. Walsh a tireless library volunteer, she is a former spelling bee champion.  When Mrs. Walsh was in sixth grade, she won the Indiana State Spelling Bee!

Finally, thank you to the Home & School Association for underwriting the Barnes & Noble gift cards that our first and second place winners took home today.

Our winners:

Grade 1:

Brinton Ohler (second place)

The top two vote-getters for the Red Clover Award were very close:

Winnie: The True Story of the Bear Who Inspired Winnie-the-Pooh edged out The Dullards by one vote. Coming in a not-so-distant third was The Blue Whale. Every other Red Clover nominee got at least one vote.

For the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award, there was no one runaway favorite; 18 out of 30 titles got at least one vote. What a great reflection of truly diverse reading interests and tastes among our 4th through 8th graders!

The following six titles received 3 votes each:
  • The Terrible Two
  • A Night Divided
  • I am Princess X
  • The Lightning Queen
  • The Blackthorn Key
  • Like a River
Come to the library to see how the rest of the DCF votes played out.

Thanks to all SFX readers for their enthusiasm and participation! And stay tuned to learn after spring break which titles win the overall Vermont-student-voted awards.
